Retro Style Furniture
Good design is truly timeless
The Retro Style emerged in the 50's and 60's in celebration of the end of the
post-war austerity.
The main characteristics of the 50's style look is long, low lines, open plan
spaces, plain unornamented walls, woodblock floors or sanded and sealed
boards with Scandinavian type tufted rugs.
Furniture is angular and bright. Modular storage units fixed to the walls or used
as room dividers. Bar stools, diner tables and booths made with chrome
tubular steel and laminate tops. The style uses moulded plywood and bent steel
chair frames.
Pottery and objects are irregular in shape - pleated paper lampshades and glass
bowl light fittings. Colors include yellow, slate blue, black and orange.
Happy days are revisited.
