English Country Style evokes a comfortable, cosy atmosphere

English country style is a traditional form, ranging from formal to casual, but based on practicality and a relaxed homey feel. The furniture favors stained or natural wood and includes turned legs for tables and chairs. Joinery is traditional mortise and tenon. Most natural materials, such as wood, stone, slate and cane will fit well with this style. Chests and benches might be painted with stenciled designs. Overstuffed, comfortable airmchairs and lounges in muted , or even faded tones. Never bright or new looking colors.

Fabric in the same muted tones are used for full-length curtains, which can be raffled, fringed or trimmed with braid and looped back with bows and tassels. Table covers with skirted matching fabrics that flow to the ground. Handmade rugs and blankets draped over armchairs, all add to the ambience.
